Leper colony of Indian, Kashmir witnesses more than 150 leper patients in the colony. The lepers continue to face alienation in the society and the diminutive population battle hard to come to terms with life. Each year about 700,000 cases of leprosy are diagnosed throughout the world, spead across the continents of Asia, Africa and South America, with over 160,000 infections found in 2008 alone. Of these about 100,000 were recorded in India. Along with India the most affected countries are Angola, Brazil, Congo, Ivory Coast, Guinea, Liberia, Madagascar, Mozambique, Nepal and Tanzania, where the disease affects one person every 10,000 inhabitants.
